Celebrate spring racing in Camberwell Junction

Right before the starting gate opens is when anticipation and excitement are at their peak. The horses are groomed and looking their finest; all that preparation is finally paying off and they are ready to win!

The Spring Racing Carnival is an exciting and heady time in Melbourne. Whether you’re sipping champagne in the Bird Cage, picnicking in the car park, or throwing your own race day celebration at home, preparation is the key to fun and fabulousness.

Camberwell Junction has everything you need to make sure you’re race-ready for the 2024 spring racing season.

Embrace spring racing style

The Spring Racing Carnival may centre on competition between horses and their riders, but fashionistas know the parades of champions is rivalled only by the parade of chic outfits, stunning millinery, and carefully curated ensembles that turn the racecourse into a runway.

This year, you can secure your place in the winners’ circle by knowing the hottest trends for the season.

Bold crochet and cut-outs are set to be a big spring racing favourite, as are sheer, barely there fabrics, and in Camberwell Junction, you’ll find some fabulous pieces at Blue Illusion, Country Road, Carolina, and Seed.

Don’t forget shoes, bags and accessories – and the good news for anyone who has ever left a day at the races with their heels in their hands, is that ballet flats are the shoes of the season. Check out the range at Midas, Mountfords and Frankie4 Footwear.

For the men, Camberwell Junction has you sorted too, with all the winning looks at Gazman, Sportscraft, and Cavalier Menswear.

In Camberwell Junction, the place to find the headwear to suit your look is at Hats Off Handmade Headwear, which offers bespoke fascinators and hats that range from statement pieces to the quietly subtle.

To complement your headwear, add the prettiest of jewels to your outfit from Stephens & Miller Jewellers, who specialise in custom-made jewellery, gem stones and antique pieces.

From expert hairstylists to luxurious spa treatments and nail perfection, Camberwell Junction is the go-to destinations for turning your beauty vision into reality.

Put on your best Spring Racing Carnival face by booking in a facial or skin treatment at Derma Cosmetika, and prepare your body with a wax, exfoliation and moisturising treatment at Endota Spa. Don’t forget to book in for a tan at Beauty and Bronze.

Heads of Camberwell will create the best hairstyle for your outfits, and don’t forget the finishing touches – book in a manicure, pedicure and eyebrow shape.

Men can complete their stylish look with a shave and haircut from Barbers On Burke or Mayhem Barbers.

Observe race day at home

You don’t need to be trackside to embrace the glamour of the Spring Racing Carnival – in fact, some of the most memorable spring racing days happen at home, surrounded by friends and family, dressed up and enjoying a barbecue, with only brief pauses to gather around the TV to cheer on a winner.

Camberwell Junction has everything you need for a spring racing barbecue or get-together. Whip up gourmet salads, charcuterie boards, and stunning grazing plates with fresh produce from the Camberwell Fresh Food Market and top up with extras from Aldi and Coles Local.

Camberwell Place also has all your fish and meat needs covered – just pop into Fish Pier and Rainbow Meats.

Horses aren’t the only ones who enjoy grazing, so make sure you have a selection of nibbles and deli foods on hand. Grab a selection from Nick and Sue’s Gourmet Deli, The Source Bulk Foods, and Coltivare, or pick up a selection of pies and sandwiches from Anne’s Pantry.

Champagne is the queen of drinks during Spring Racing Carnival, so stock up on the bubbly, as well as a selection of beer and wine from CV Wine Merchants, BWS, or Dan Murphy’s.

Celebrate race day in Camberwell Junction

Spring is the perfect time to restore that radiant glow to your skin. Start by booking a facial at one of Camberwell Junction’s skin clinics, where a professional can also recommend an in-salon treatment and a personalised at-home skincare routine tailored to your lifestyle and skin type.

Then it’s time to move onto the rest of your body! Schedule a waxing session, followed by a full-body exfoliation and treatment at one of Camberwell Junction’s beauty salons.

While you’re at it, why not indulge in a relaxing manicure or pedicure at a local nail salon?

Spring is also a great time to try out a new hairstyle or colour. Whether you want to make a bold statement or just experiment a little, the award-winning hairdressers in Camberwell Junction are ready to help you achieve the perfect look.

Refresh your home for spring

Did you know that you can refresh your home decor for spring by updating a few key homewares?

The first step is to pack away those items around the house that are just gathering dust, that no longer hold meaning for you, or that you’re just bored of – spring is the time to spring clean!

The natural materials trend is huge this season, with texture front and centre. Think white and beige on walls, cushions, and bed linen. It’s cool, clean and inviting.

‘Quiet luxury’ is another trend that overlaps this aesthetic, and involves replacing old appliances, kitchenware, and even tabletop pieces, with sleek, modern pieces.

If you’re feeling bold, you can try out the trend, known to designers as maximalism, but which translates to ‘more is more’! Think walls filled with art; side tables with lots of different vases; bookshelves packed to the brim.

With countless ways to brighten up your home this spring, you can find all the inspiration you need in Camberwell Junction shopping precinct!

With the wide range of fashion and home decorating stores and beauty and wellness salons, in Camberwell Junction you can let your style, self-care, and surroundings reflect the bright, hopeful spirit of spring.

3 women’s fashion trends for spring 2020

Any fashion-forward Camberwell filly will tell you that spring is the most important season in fashion.

Traditionally, it’s the time when designers reveal the style trends for the warmer months; when fashionistas pack away their winter layers and embrace colour and movement; when racing carnivals burst with colour, style and vibrancy – then along came 2020.

For most of us, over isolation our uniforms have largely comprised comfy leisurewear and slippers, and our biggest fashion moments have been when we’ve switched tops for the next Zoom meeting.

Some things haven’t changed though.

Camberwell’s top fashion brands have been hard at work, sourcing the very latest new season styles and trends from Australia’s most sought-after designers, just in time for spring and our re-emergence from hibernating at home.

Here are the three key women’s fashion trends for spring 2020 now available at stores in Camberwell shopping precinct:

Elegant detailing

They say it’s all in the detail – and this has never been truer than in spring 2020, when details step out from their supporting role to take centre stage.

Buttons are bold or beautifully crafted, delicate ruching adorns skirts and dresses, and the perfect cuff is one that makes an impression.

You’ll spot this trend in a few ways: a linen military jacket makes with bold, statement buttons; the delicate pleating of a skirt that is delightfully spot on; the finely gathered cuffs on a new season dress that will have you positively swooning.

The signature cut of the season is the tier, be it a layered hem on a floral dress or a fully layered dress for the more fashion daring.

Puff sleeves

The key fashion secret Camberwell fashion devotees need up their sleeve this spring is that those sleeves had better be big, puffy, and make a huge statement.

This season, puffy shoulders are perfect for short or cap sleeves, but if the arm is full length, the billowing needs to happen around the wrist.

Exaggerate the puffiness of the sleeve with a tight, buttoned down cuff, perfectly exemplified in an oversized shirt or effortlessly chic on a full-length knit dress.

When experimenting with the puff sleeve, keep this style tip in mind: puffy doesn’t mean pirate. This season’s puff sleeve leans more towards softly delicate or perfectly tailored, and creates a point of interest in the outfit.

Fine print florals

Florals may be a spring staple but this season, make sure the print is fine, detailed and small – and Camberwell’s fashion stores are right onto it.

Think of a floral shirt with a print so fine you’ll need a microscope to take it all in, or a ruffle shirt featuring the tiniest floral print, with a ruffled, layered cut.

And if you’re thinking that florals are a little boring, hop into a floral jumpsuit and you’ll feel anything but mediocre.

Style tip: if the print would look just as gorgeous adorning your home as wallpaper, you’ve got the look.

While coronavirus restrictions and social isolating measures may mean that shopping sprees as we know them are off the cards, all Camberwell Junction’s top fashion retails continue to bring you the very latest looks and trends for spring 2020 online, and most can be ordered via click-and-collect or contactless home delivery.

3 great ways to enjoy the spring season in Camberwell

Spring is the season for transition, renewal and growth.

It’s the time of year when the sun starts to shine a little brighter, the days get a little longer and we’re encouraged to move out of the winter slumber and into something new.

Spring is often symbolic for starting new projects and creating new ideas.

It’s also the perfect time of year to try a new activity, explore a new area and reconnect with friends and family.

This spring, Camberwell provides the perfect environment for discovering something new.

From participating in a new activity, to strolling through the markets or catching up with friends at different cafe, Camberwell has it all.

1. Try a new exercise class

Feeling a bit sluggish after winter and keen to get moving again? Then consider taking on the challenge of a new exercise class.

There are several options in Camberwell including indoor cycling classes at Sprinnt which offers varying intensity and is suitable for all fitness levels.

Perhaps a strengthening Pilates class, mindfulness yoga or a low-impact barre workout is more your style? Classes are available at Jessica Dewar Yoga, CorePlus, Love Athletica and KX Pilates.

Now blue is BIG for the boys this season so we are just loving the new Fifty Shades of Blue range from Cavalier Menswear.

Race day is a chance to go all out, matching your pocket squares with your dress socks so whether you go imperial Prussian or Robins Egg, patterned, polka doted or plain, you can plan every item down to the cuff links.
