Meet Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market stallholder Nguyen Tran of Market Blooms

If you’ve ever picked up a bunch of fresh flowers at the Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market, chances are you’ve bought them from Market Blooms.

Stallholder Nguyen Tran said he has been trading at the market for more than five years.

The business, which is part of Mr Fresh Wholesale Flowers, sells a range of flowers and foliage, catering to the varied tastes and preferences of its customers.

The majority of the flowers sold at Market Blooms are grown locally at farms in Victoria, and Mr Tran works directly with growers to source the flowers sold at his stall.

At the stall you’ll find common varieties of flowers such as carnations, chrysanthemums, tulips, gerberas, and proteas. They offer both bunches of a single types of flowers as well as mixed bouquets.

“There’s certain flowers that people like but I do try to bring in a little bit of everything; to try and have a good range,” Mr Tran said.

“But there will be things on the floor that we have more buckets of than others. Something like lilies is really popular. And we bring in lots of seasonal flowers too.”

Mr Tran said a lot of the customers who come to the stall to buy flowers often already know what they want, but he is on hand to help anyone who might need some guidance in choosing a bunch of blooms suited to their needs.

It’s common to see the stall at Market Blooms filled with customers queuing up to buy flowers. So, what makes this stall, in particular, so popular?

Mr Tran said people enjoy buying flowers so they can have something pretty to put in their home and because it brings them joy.

“Flowers put a smile on everyone’s face,” he said.

“I have a lot of returning customers who will come and buy a fresh bunch of flowers every week. And a lot of people buy flowers as gifts that they take to a family member or friend over the weekend.

“The other big one is that people buy flowers to take to a cemetery. They swing by to find something nice and beautiful on their way to visiting the cemetery.”

Mr Tran said he likes trading at the Rotary Camberwell Sunday Market because it has a wonderful community atmosphere and he gets the chance to meet lots of people.

“I get to meet a lot of new people each week, and I get to socialise with them,” he said.

“It’s great to be part of the community.”
