Enjoy a virtual art show with Camberwell on Canvas 2021

This year art lovers will be able to enjoy Camberwell’s annual community art trail via an interactive virtual experience.

Camberwell on Canvas 2021 will feature works by local artists through a digital streetscape, which runs from October 19 – November 14.

Artists ranging from amateurs to professionals have produced works that show their interpretation of this year’s theme: ‘Local – what does that mean to you?’

Artworks have been created in a range of mediums including oil, water colour, charcoal, pencil and more, which will be represented in digital formats that people can virtually ‘walk through’ and view.

The Camberwell on Canvas art trail also gives members of the public some exciting ways to get involved, where they can enter two competitions.

The first competition involves participants finding clues in selected artworks to solve a puzzle, while the other competition allows people to vote for their favourite pieces in the art trail. Both competitions give participants the chance to win great prizes (full details on how to enter coming soon).

This will be the tenth year that Camberwell on Canvas has been running, which was developed by the Camberwell Traders’ Association as a community event to support the businesses on Burke Hill while highlighting local artists.

The artists that contribute works to the trail include a combination of professionals and amateurs, and some of their art works will be available for sale.

Camberwell Traders’ Association manager Kerry Daly said it was exciting to mark 10 years for Camberwell on Canvas.

“This wonderful community event started from humble beginnings and has grown each year. It has been a pleasure to see Camberwell on Canvas evolve, with relationships between our local traders and artists growing stronger each year,” she said.

“Even though we have had a challenging couple of years with the pandemic, community has always been at the heart of everything we do. This is why it’s important for us to continue celebrating local businesses, local artists, and locals in our community.

“We are very excited to bring you another year of Camberwell on Canvas through a virtual art trail that allows us to share these beautiful artworks in a really unique way. It truly is an art show with a point of difference and we hope you enjoy it.

“This event was created to bring people up to visit the shops up on Burke Hill so we are disappointed that people won’t be visiting in person for the show but hope they do head up to see the eclectic range of businesses found in this historic area soon.”
