Meet The Meating Point: Big flavours and good vibes in Camberwell Junction

Smash burgers, loaded fries, HSPs and kebabs. The Meating Point has brought big flavours and an equally big personality to Burke Road.

Opening in October 2025, the Camberwell Junction eatery is the creation of owner Yusuf, who made an unexpected career change after spending more than a decade working as a corporate consultant.

Ready for a new challenge, he decided to swap the corporate world for hospitality and build something of his own. The result of this labour of love is The Meating Point, where the food might get you through the door, but the experience is designed to keep you coming back.

“We focus on the experience as a whole, not just the food but the overall vibe,” Yusuf says.

That means friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere and, importantly, consistently good food. The Classic Smash Burger and HSP (Halal Snack Pack) have quickly emerged as the crowd favourites, while Yusuf’s personal pick is the Double Chilli Smash.

Camberwell Junction proved a natural fit for the concept. With The Palace Hotel across the road, nearby schools, Camberwell train station and a steady mix of locals moving through the precinct, the location ticked all the boxes.

The response since opening has been just as encouraging. Yusuf says the support from neighbouring business owners and the loyal customer base built in such a short time has been overwhelming.

Those relationships have become one of his favourite parts of leaving corporate life behind.

“The interactions with customers are hands down the best part of the job,” he says. “When you’ve had a crappy day, one good chat is all it takes to turn that around.”

Alongside Yusuf is a small team with plenty of character of its own: Alfi, balancing work with his studies, and Stef, described by Yusuf as both “Melbourne’s finest DJ” and the team’s “young king of hospitality”. Together, they’re building the kind of casual local spot where good food and good banter go hand in hand.

And if the current menu isn’t enough of a challenge, there’s something else brewing at The Meating Point: the mysterious Dragon Challenge.

Yusuf isn’t giving much away just yet, but one thing is already clear—the former corporate consultant has found a very different kind of meeting point in Camberwell, and this one comes with smashed patties, loaded fries and a whole lot more flavour.
