Attention to detail, impeccable service, and offering a huge product range is what sets Floorspace in Camberwell Junction apart from the rest. Just ask director James Trowbridge and his expert team.

The family-owned business, which was opened by Mr Trowbridge’s father Ian in 1974, boasts extensive experience in importing, specifying, making and installing natural fibre flooring.

“Being a family-run business, you get that personalised service,” Mr Trowbridge said.

“The staff you meet in the shop are the people you deal with on the phone, so there’s a continuity of service.

“And there’s real pride in what we do.”

It’s that passion for excellence that has seen the Camberwell Junction business thrive over the past four decades.

Expert service makes all the difference

Friendly, professional, responsive, reliable service – that’s the secret to their success, Mr Trowbridge said.

“We have clients that had one of our carpets laid 10, 15, 20 years ago, and they come back to us,” he said.

And it’s not just the locals that love their work.

“We work across the country – right down the Peninsula, out to Gippsland, even over the border,” he said.

“We have that reach because of the service we provide.”

Floorspace’s team of highly experienced professional installers is another point of difference.

“We don’t contract out, and that gives our customers peace of mind that when they buy through us, they will be dealing with us from start to finish,” he said.

It’s all about creating lasting relationships for the Floorspace team.

“We enjoy interacting with people and building those relationships, whether it’s our retail clients, designers, or suppliers,” he said.

“And they love working with us because we’re responsive, prompt, reliable and good to deal with.”

The best range, naturally

When it comes to floor coverings, you want the best – and that’s where Floorspace comes in.

Floorspace sells and installs natural fibre floor coverings – products that are a healthier alternative to regular carpet, and environmentally friendly to satisfy discerning customers.

“Our product range includes sisal, jute, seagrass and a wool and jute mix, which is lovely undyed New Zealand wool,” Mr Trowbridge said.

“They are all natural and sustainable – that’s a focus for us, absolutely – right down to our recycled textile underlay and our spray protection.

“We keep everything as environmentally sound as possible.”

With more than 40 different products in their expanding range, variety is another key to customer satisfaction.

“We have a subsidiary company called Studio Abaca,” he said.

“That’s our high-end, bespoke, handwoven rug and runner product, made from banana leaf, which is gorgeous in its natural state but can be Pantone-dyed to any colour.”

Suitable for indoor and outdoor settings, the beautiful, 100 per cent natural weaves, textures and colours are particularly popular with designers.

Floorspace’s online rug builder allows customers to choose from an extensive range of weaves, textures and colours to create a unique rug.

“We make the rugs locally, so our lead time averages 2-4 weeks for a custom-made rug. That’s unheard of,” he said.

“That’s another reason we are fortunately in a position of being ahead of the game.”
