Tram network upgrades in Camberwell

Yarra Trams works with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to carry out ongoing maintenance and renewal works across the network to ensure a safe and reliable tram network for future generations.

A section of tram track in Camberwell has been identified for urgent maintenance to deliver quieter infrastructure, improved ride, comfort and safety for our passengers and the community.

Major works

Works will include the replacement of tram tracks, poles and overhead wiring at the following locations:

• Burke Rd between Camberwell Rd and Cotham Rd, Camberwell from 11.50pm Friday, July 23 to 5am Monday, July 26, 2021.

Motorists

Sections of Burke Rd between Camberwell Rd and Cotham Rd will be closed to local and through traffic from 11.50pm Friday, July 23 to 5am Monday, July 26, 2021. Please refer to map for these locations.

No vehicle access will be permitted during this time.

Public transport changes

During major works, tram route 72 will be affected. For more details closer to the time, please visit the Yarra Trams website.

Pedestrians

The work zone will be fenced off for safety, however footpaths will remain open around the work area to allow pedestrian access to businesses and residences.

Please note that there will be kerb-to-kerb fencing which will limit pedestrian crossings. These fences are required to ensure public safety.

Crossing points will be facilitated, where possible, and may change depending on the construction activities taking place.

Local businesses

The businesses located around the works area will remain open during the works. Please continue to support your local businesses during these essential infrastructure works.

Pedestrian access to these businesses will remain open at all times.

As this work is necessary to maintain a safe tram network as required by the Rail Management Act 1996 (Vic), Yarra Trams will not compensate any third parties for any losses incurred during the project.

Local access and parking

Sections of Burke Rd between Camberwell Rd and Cotham Rd will be closed to local and through traffic from 11.50pm Friday, July 23 to 5am Monday, July 26 2021. Please refer to the map.

Street parking and driveway access in these sections will be temporarily removed during these works.

Parking and local access will be reinstated on completion of works.

Noise and dust

Construction will take place 24-hours a day so that we can complete the works quickly and reduce the period of time that we inconvenience you. Noise and dust are unavoidable, however we will work to minimise this as much as possible and complete the noisiest works between 7am and 10pm.

We apologise for the inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your understanding as we carry out this essential renewal.

Local community

Access to shops and local amenities will remain unchanged during the works.
