PayStay parking is coming to Camberwell Junction
November 15, 2022
From Tuesday, November 15, parking mobile app PayStay will be available for visitors to use across Boroondara.
PayStay makes it easier to track and pay instantly for parking straight from a mobile phone. The app also allows users to:
- Only pay for the parking time that they use – It’s as easy as pressing ‘start’ when the user arrives and ‘stop’ on the app when they leave.
- Opt-in to receive reminders – Users can receive notifications when their parking time is almost expired.
- Extend parking time directly through your phone – If a user decides to shop or dine a little longer, there is no need for them to go back to their car or refill the meter – the app has a timer which tracks their parking session. However, drivers need to note any time restriction on the parking sign and must not overstay. Topping up on the app doesn’t allow drivers to stay longer than the permitted time on the sign.
We will still be accepting coins and credit cards at all parking meters, with PayStay providing an alternative payment option for those who prefer to use the app.
PayStay stickers will be displayed on all parking meters with instructions on how to use the app.
Council will also absorb all transaction fees when the community use PayStay, just like we do for credit card surcharges on ticket machines currently.
Camberwell parking sensor network now complete
The installation of in-ground parking sensors within the Camberwell Junction precinct is now complete.
This sensor technology is already in operation in other busy precincts, including Kew Junction, and helps us to manage public parking in an equitable manner in accordance with our Parking Management Policy 2017.
The sensors are an efficient way for us to improve the availability of spaces and provide fair access to parking in busy precincts for our residents, traders, shoppers, and visitors.
More information about parking sensors
The use of in-ground parking sensors will not change any of the current parking options or restrictions. The sensors assist with monitoring existing parking – for usage, timing and supply.
We have received separate feedback about existing restrictions, and this is currently being reviewed to ensure it is providing the best conditions possible to support residents, visitors and workers parking in the precinct.
Sensors are small electronic devices installed under the road surface. They measure the time a vehicle enters and leaves a paid parking space and are linked to our parking management system. The sensor data is then manually reviewed by our Parking Officers. The decision to issue an infringement for an illegally parked vehicle is still made by a Parking Officer and not the sensor.
