Alert for traders with liquor licenses
March 3, 2022
Police have received information about underage persons attempting to (and sometimes successfully) buy alcohol in the Camberwell area.
Police would like to identify those trying to buy liquor when underage (even if their attempt was unsuccessful). Some underage persons also steal alcohol and verbally abuse staff. Police encourage you to report these incidents for investigation.
There are very strict laws around the sale of alcohol – you must encourage staff to always ask for ID if the customer looks under 25. Staff have the right to refuse service if there is anything off about the identification presented.
Staff may also consider if they wish to sell to someone of legal age if it is obvious there is a large group of underage persons in their company. Police welcome any information about customers suspected of selling to minors.
Please report any incidents to Camberwell Police by calling (03) 8882 0688.
