With the Year of the Rooster beginning on Saturday, January 28, Camberwell shopping precinct would like to wish all its residents and visitors a very happy and successful Chinese New Year.
In the Chinese zodiac, there are 12 different signs and they are represented by the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, dog, pig, and the rooster.
According to the zodiac, people born in the Year of the Rooster tend to be kind-hearted, hardworking, humorous, and courageous. They like to keep their homes tidy and organised, they crave the attention of others (sometimes to a fault), and are typically active and healthy people.
The Year of the Rooster also represents fidelity and punctuality. For ancestors who had no alarm clocks, the crowing of the rooster was important, as it woke people and prompted them to start work for the day. In Chinese culture, another symbolic meaning of the chicken is that it banishes evil spirits.
Chinese New Year begins with New Year’s Eve on January 27 and celebrations continue for seven days.
