Camberwell’s sixth instalment of the Dine In Dine Out food fiesta offered visitors a packed program of activities and united the local community.
The winter food and wine event took place on Saturday, August 4 where Camberwell traders put on a lively day of food demonstrations, tastings, entertainment and fun family activities.
This year there were two pop-up spaces for the event – the Evans Place laneway and the Burke Avenue park, located opposite the entrance to The Well shopping centre.
Camberwell Centre Association Manager Kerry Daly said the 2018 Dine In Dine Out event received lots of positive feedback from those who attended.
“As our sixth consecutive year of running Dine In Dine Out, we were really proud to be able to grow this community event with even more activities and free family fun during the day,” she said.
Ms Daly said this year’s event had two busy pop-up parks during the day, fire truck rides, roving entertainers, children’s activities, live music performances, a family day at the Camberwell Fresh Food Market and a great selection of food and beverages from our local traders and visiting suppliers.
“The After Dark Jazz Park, which took place in the evening, was busier than ever with locals happy to cosy up under the heaters to enjoy live music and mulled wine,” she said.
“Thank you to everyone who came to Dine In Dine Out – it wouldn’t be the same without the community support.”
Burke Avenue carpark
Located opposite the entrance to The Well shopping centre, the Burke Avenue carpark was transformed into a family-friendly space, with music, circus acts, carnival rides, a petting zoo, craft activities and food trucks.
Thanks to The Dreaming Space team for putting on such a lively show.
Evans Place laneway
Throughout the day, Evans Place offered visitors a park-style venue to enjoy some lunch and take in the atmosphere.
With a range of food options available, visitors could choose from Spanish-style paella from Simply Spanish, acai bowls from Acai Brothers Camberwell, and zero-waste products from The Source Bulks Foods, among many others.
Visitors also tried their hand at a game of giant chess and tested their skills at the boutique slot car racing track hosted by Race Party.
After Dark Jazz Park
In the evening Evans Place transformed into the After Dark Jazz Park and delighted visitors with a magical setting.
Festoon lighting created an intimate ambiance, coupled with a great selection of food and drink vendors, and entertainment including swing dancing and live music from jazz band Dr Jazz & The Gangsters Palace. Visitors were also treated to several acrobatic acts including fire juggling and circus tricks.
Market fun, animals, fire truck rides and more
Dine In Dine Out offered plenty of fun for visitors to Camberwell.
Children and adults hopped on the antique fire truck at the Market Place carpark and enjoyed free rides around the Camberwell precinct.
Children participated in craft workshops with Smart Art Activities.
The CaribVic steel band brought their fleet of drummers to play live music in Burke Avenue carpark, adding the cheerful sounds of the Caribbean to the precinct.
The Camberwell Fresh Food Market also held their Family Day which offered visitors great deals on fresh food along with some entertainment for the family.
Several Camberwell traders also held in-store promotions for the Dine In Dine Out event.
Roving performers and entertainers
Dine In Dine Out has become known for its quirky performers and entertainers roving across the precinct during the event.
This year’s event had stilt walkers, musicians, jugglers, acrobatic artists, face painters, balloon modellers and hula hoop performers to keep the event lively and full of humour.
