Camberwell on Canvas returns as virtual experience
Article posted: October 19, 2020
Camberwell’s annual community art trail returns this year as an interactive virtual experience.
Running from October 19 – November 14, Camberwell on Canvas 2020 showcases the talent of local artists through a digital streetscape.
Artists ranging from amateurs to professionals have created works to show their interpretation of the theme ‘What will you embrace after lockdown?’
Works have been created in a range of mediums including oil, water colour, charcoal, pencil and more, which will be represented in digital formats.
This year, members of the public can enter two competitions. The first competition requires participants to find clues in designated artworks to solve a puzzle, while the other competition allows people to vote for their favourite art works. Both competitions give participants the chance to win great prizes (full details on how to enter below).
The Camberwell Centre Traders Association has created the community event to support the unique businesses on Burke Hill and highlight local artists.
The artists are a mix of professionals and amateurs and some of the art works will be available for sale.
Camberwell Centre Traders Association manager Kerry Daly said it was exciting to run Camberwell on Canvas again, following its success in previous years.
“This popular event started back in 2012 and we didn’t want to miss a year and disappoint our community, even though the challenge in 2020 was that we could not get access to the stores. We also changed the theme to reflect this year and it has also been so interesting to see what the artists are looking forward to after lockdown,” she said.
“It’s great to be able to have a show at all, but very exciting to bring it to life in a virtual art trail this year. It has allowed us to present the art and also the shops in a really unique way. We have always said this is an art show with difference.”
