Police update: EFTPOS thefts and misuse

Boroondara businesses are being urged to be alert to EFTPOS machine manual misuse and theft.

Detectives are investigating several incidents in Kew and Hawthorn.

• Never refund a transaction to a card other than the one used to make the original purchase
• Don’t allow customers to have control over your EFTPOS machine
• Be wary if a customer takes ages to input a 4-digit PIN or is reading numbers from their phone or a piece of paper
• Never leave your EFTPOS machine unattended on the counter.
