Revitalising Camberwell Junction’s public spaces

Placemaking is the collaborative approach Boroondara Council is taking to improving Boroondara’s public spaces. They’re listening carefully to the needs and aspirations of our communities and responding with projects to enhance the vibrancy and economic viability of their centres, create opportunities for social connection and improve our communities health and wellbeing.

Since council’s placemaking program began in 2019, a number of projects have commenced that aim to create people-focused streets filled with arts and activity, build lively local economies, consider sustainable access, preserve and enhance local heritage and character, and remain ‘green at heart’ for a healthier city.

Camberwell Junction is one of Boroondara’s key activity centres. Home to Camberwell Fresh Food Market, the iconic Camberwell Sunday Market, a broad mix of retailer, boutique eateries, lively wine bars and the magnificent Rivoli Cinema, ‘the Junction’ presents a world of opportunity for locals and visitors alike to connect and explore a historic shopping destination within Melbourne’s inner-east.
