Meet Rino and Hunny of Con Noi Italian Trattoria in Camberwell
Article posted: October 8, 2019
In a cosy and homely setting, the team at Con Noi Italian Trattoria in Camberwell are serving up an Italian-inspired menu with a modern twist.
Business partners Rino Di Gianvincenzo and Hunny Talwar opened the doors to their Italian-style eatery on Camberwell Rd in late April 2019, with a menu spanning from breakfast to dinner.
While the business prides itself on fresh and tasty dishes, people are ultimately at the heart of the restaurant.
“When you come to Con Noi, we want it to feel like home,” said Di Gianvincenzo.
“We are not looking to host hundreds of people and rush, rush, rush every night. We are here to create a comfortable environment with the right amount of people.”
A mouth-watering menu
Con Noi Italian Trattoria is all about authentic cuisine that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
“All of our food is premium quality, it’s made from fresh ingredients delivered every day and we make everything ourselves except for a few things,” he said.
Di Gianvincenzo draws inspiration from Abruzzo in Italy, his home region which is known for its Adriatic coastline and the Apennine mountains.
The team takes some traditional flavours such as pork, duck and seafood and adds a new spin to create unique dining experiences.
The menu is made up of mouth-watering dishes like homemade gnocchi with brisket and pork shoulder ragu, confit duck legs on sweet potato mash, and semolina gnocchi topped with orange glaze and an ever-changing fish of the day.
There are also some appetising vegetarian options available such as eggplant cannelloni filled with ricotta cheese and basil, and homemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta cheese and spinach served with Napoli sauce.
Passion for cooking
Like many chefs, Di Gianvincenzo’s enthusiasm for food and cooking dates back to his early days.
“I learned a lot just watching my mum and grandma cooking, which is basically the story of all Italian cooks,” he said.
“I love everything about my job, I have a passion for cooking and I don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t a chef.”
Whether he’s meeting new people in the restaurant or testing new dishes in the kitchen, the chef enjoys the variety that comes with running a restaurant.
“Every day is challenging too, and that’s what I like about it,” he said.
Feel at home
The atmosphere of the restaurant is important too and the team has worked hard to create a warm and inviting space that feels like a home away from home.
Di Gianvincenzo said he had always loved the kinds of places that were a little bit rustic and comfortable.
“In Italy, you open up your door and invite your friends and family to come in and eat with you,” he said.
“We’ve opened up the restaurant like our house so that you can come in, have a laugh and a drink with us and just relax.”
