Kmart has opened its new store in Camberwell shopping precinct.

The popular department store, which offers a range of goods at affordable prices, replaces the former Target store which was previously housed in the same building.

The opening of Kmart Camberwell will also boost local employment opportunities – 104 previous Target team members have transferred across the growing Kmart team and an additional 38 team members have been recruited from the local community.

Kmart Group’s General Manager of Property Ben Smith said he was excited to announce the opening of the Camberwell store.

“As a business, we’re committed to opening stores in new communities, so that we reach even more people; and we’re excited to open our doors to the community of Camberwell. It’s a strong-performing hub with good demographics, and we think it will be a great fit for Kmart.”

For the past three weeks, the Kmart team has been busy preparing for the store’s opening.

“We’re really proud to share it with the local community just in time for Christmas,” Mr Smith said.

“At Kmart, we want to make everyday living brighter for Australian families. That means easy access to the everyday items they need, at the lowest possible price. It’s how we make shopping more accessible to more people – and that’s at the heart of everything we do.”

Manager of Camberwell Centre Association Kerry Daly said she was pleased to welcome Kmart to Camberwell shopping precinct.

“Kmart will make a beneficial addition to Camberwell’s diverse retail offering,” she said.

“In addition to our range of supermarkets and speciality stores, the Kmart will offer local shoppers more choice of products and value for money, which is a win-win.”

Kmart is known for selling a range of goods including fashion, homewares, bedding, toys, electronics, and more.
