5 colours that will be in fashion for spring 2021

Spring has officially sprung and that means we can start shedding those bulky winter layers and dark hues from our wardrobes.

This time of year is all about new beginnings, and with nearly all of the country experiencing some form of #lockdownlife these past few months, we could all use a breath of fresh air.

Designers are taking fashion cues for their spring collections from nature – think of a warm, sunny day with clear blue skies, vibrant new growth, and the air filled with the scent of flowers in bloom.

Even if you can’t venture far from home at the moment, you can still bring this spring colour palette into your closet in your working-from-home-friendly lounge and active wear.

These light, bright colours – now available at Camberwell Junction’s fashion stores – will put a spring in your stylish step.

1. Hot pink

It’s time to swap the blush pink that was so popular a few years ago for this season’s bold statement colour: hot pink.

Keep it casual by pairing a linen puff sleeve top with jeans, or for night out go head-to-toe hot pink with a soft pantsuit.

Available in everything from blazers to bikinis, it’s impossible not to feel your mood lifting when you put on this eye-catching shade.

2. Burnt orange

The trend setters at the Pantone Color Institute describe this delicious-sounding hue as ‘a buttery brown that warms the heart’.

If you caught the MAARA Collective or Ginger & Smart runway shows during Australian Fashion Week 2021, then this sunset tone will already be on your radar.

Think of this season’s burnt orange as a beachy, earthy, and slightly ginger shade that will bring out the bronze tones in your skin as you start spending more time outdoors.

3. Lovely lilac

Lavender, wisteria, lilac, periwinkle – whatever you want to call it, this pastel purple continues to trend since first making a fashion comeback a few seasons ago.

Traditionally a regal colour, purple takes on a more youthful quality in this soft shade.

Not sure if lilac is your colour? Incorporate it into your wardrobe in a more subtle way with a floral print or accessories like sunglasses, earrings or a clutch.

4. Mint green

Inspired by the fresh and cool tones of nature, this versatile shade of green can be integrated into your wardrobe in so many ways – from shirred midi dresses and light knits to jeans, activewear or a crisp collared shirt (millennials are putting their own spin on this classic with the oversized ‘dad shirt’).

You can’t go wrong pairing this serene shade with some wide-leg denim pants and a pair of white sneakers.

5. Buttercream

This member of the cream family has a yellow hue that will perfectly compliment both the cool pastels and bright splashes of colour trending this spring.

Pair linen or denim pants with a colourful top and sandals, or let buttercream be the focus with a poplin dress and gold accessories.

Move over khaki, buttercream is this season’s statement neutral.

3 women’s fashion trends for autumn/winter 2021

It was impossible to go through a year like 2020 and not have it leave its mark on our 2021 planning – and that includes fashion.

We may have dragged ourselves off the couch and out of lockdown, but our newfound love of effortless comfort isn’t going to disappear.

Accordingly, fashion designers and stylists have embraced the casual look while ensuring we’re not just living in our trackies and PJs.

Autumn and winter fashion looks are set to be comfy but oh so stylish, a little oversized, and a lot luxe.

Here are the three key trends to look out for in Camberwell stores to ensure you capture the autumn/winter 2021 zeitgeist.

Style trend #1: Romantic ruffles

COVID-19 lockdowns and working from home introduced sweatpants and tees to all aspects of life, even the office (albeit a home-based one).

Now, all that comfortable clothing is getting a luxe makeover. After a year of living loungefully, we need a dash of romance and flair.

This season, that takes the form of voluminous sleeves and skirts in light, flowy fabrics. The cut is relaxed but the overall look is feminine.

Tiered ruffle designs in skirts and dresses add a dreamy quality to easy-to-wear cuts that can see out the cooler months.

Seek out flowy pants and casual jumpsuits too, in slick fabrics or with cashmere or silk edgings.

Style trend #2: Bold colour blocking

Bright and bold are key aspects of this season’s trends and just what we need to inject some life into dreary wintery days.

What autumn or winter wardrobe is complete without a woollen item or two? This year, knitwear is not just an added extra – it’s front and centre and comes in sensational block colours.

Shirts, whether puff-sleeved or oversized, look fabulous in bold fruity hues or strong statement colours like emerald green.

A bright knit or shirt can be teamed with jeans for instant casual-chic style or with wide leg linen pants to create a more sophisticated look.

The colours and fabrics on offer will make wardrobe updates easy this season.

Style trend #3: Oversized

We’ve been here before but when comfort lingers as a key trend, big is best. An oversized look ties into the ‘ath-flow’ trend, creating a classic and simple outfit that transitions effortlessly from weekend to work.

Billowing shirts look just as good at brunch as on that critical Zoom meeting, and it’s a style that will last through autumn and winter, as you can use it to add a fashionable layer to any outfit.

Loose and long, wide-leg pants can be worn casually with sneakers or dressed up with a heeled boot or shoe.

The classic blazer is also slightly oversized this season and comes in natural fabrics such as linen, a versatile wardrobe staple well worth the investment.

As summer fades, head to the fashion boutiques in Camberwell shopping precinct and rework your wardrobe with a more luxurious take on comfort.

3 must-wear colours for spring 2020

If you’re finding a renewed spring in your step and revelling in the feeling of sunshine on your face, it can only mean one thing – spring is finally here, and with it, a fresh season of fashion.

Spring fashion is all about the joy of creating a new look, and an essential element of spring style is the palette of the season.

Camberwell fashion stylists and retailers are now stocking the latest colours of spring, and we’ve created a must-have list for your wardrobe.

This year, the fashion palette is all about hues: don’t think block colours, think specific shades. The subtle difference can make or break a look, so take note!

Here are the colour trends for spring 2020, now showing at Camberwell shopping precinct.

Pale blue

No longer a shade reserved for infants, pale blue has graduated magnificently and is now the must-have colour of spring 2020.

Camberwell’s fashion stores are right on track, displaying blues in soft hues that make any fabric look delicate and light to the touch.

Seed has combined pale blue with a peplum hem, the ‘it’ cut of the season. Meanwhile, Trenery has added their characteristic touch of class to off-duty chic with this stylish sweater in spring’s hottest hue.

Style tip: more is more. Be bold and go head-to-toe in pale blue to really capture the currently trending look.

White or cream/off white

While this shade is a staple colour in every spring or summer wardrobe, this year it’s all about the amount of white or off-white and how you wear it. For spring 2020, white is on point when it’s crisp, clean, and monochromatic.

This white maxi skirt from Country Road is the ultimate in versatile style, perfect when teamed with a coloured tee for casual weekend brunches, or a silky top and heels for evening drinks. Over at Witchery, their monochrome white lace dress gives us a glimpse of the bright spring nights ahead.

Sage

It’s green, but not as you know it. Sage has stepped into the fashion limelight, with shades ranging from mint to soft khaki. Look no further than Camberwell’s fashion spots for your sage inspiration.

This tiered mini dress from Decjuba has the new hue sorted and also features two of our favourite fashion details: pockets and slightly puffed sleeves. Just Jeans is on the same page colour-wise, with this season’s must-have casual mini skirt in spring’s latest shade. And the classic Bengajean from Blue Illusion adopts the sage colour trend perfectly while offering style and comfort.

Whatever your personal style or the occasion, you’ll always be enviably on trend when you choose from the wide range of fresh spring looks now available at Camberwell shopping precinct.

3 women’s fashion trends for spring 2020

Any fashion-forward Camberwell filly will tell you that spring is the most important season in fashion.

Traditionally, it’s the time when designers reveal the style trends for the warmer months; when fashionistas pack away their winter layers and embrace colour and movement; when racing carnivals burst with colour, style and vibrancy – then along came 2020.

For most of us, over isolation our uniforms have largely comprised comfy leisurewear and slippers, and our biggest fashion moments have been when we’ve switched tops for the next Zoom meeting.

Some things haven’t changed though.

Camberwell’s top fashion brands have been hard at work, sourcing the very latest new season styles and trends from Australia’s most sought-after designers, just in time for spring and our re-emergence from hibernating at home.

Here are the three key women’s fashion trends for spring 2020 now available at stores in Camberwell shopping precinct:

Elegant detailing

They say it’s all in the detail – and this has never been truer than in spring 2020, when details step out from their supporting role to take centre stage.

Buttons are bold or beautifully crafted, delicate ruching adorns skirts and dresses, and the perfect cuff is one that makes an impression.

You’ll spot this trend in a few ways: a linen military jacket makes with bold, statement buttons; the delicate pleating of a skirt that is delightfully spot on; the finely gathered cuffs on a new season dress that will have you positively swooning.

The signature cut of the season is the tier, be it a layered hem on a floral dress or a fully layered dress for the more fashion daring.

Puff sleeves

The key fashion secret Camberwell fashion devotees need up their sleeve this spring is that those sleeves had better be big, puffy, and make a huge statement.

This season, puffy shoulders are perfect for short or cap sleeves, but if the arm is full length, the billowing needs to happen around the wrist.

Exaggerate the puffiness of the sleeve with a tight, buttoned down cuff, perfectly exemplified in an oversized shirt or effortlessly chic on a full-length knit dress.

When experimenting with the puff sleeve, keep this style tip in mind: puffy doesn’t mean pirate. This season’s puff sleeve leans more towards softly delicate or perfectly tailored, and creates a point of interest in the outfit.

Fine print florals

Florals may be a spring staple but this season, make sure the print is fine, detailed and small – and Camberwell’s fashion stores are right onto it.

Think of a floral shirt with a print so fine you’ll need a microscope to take it all in, or a ruffle shirt featuring the tiniest floral print, with a ruffled, layered cut.

And if you’re thinking that florals are a little boring, hop into a floral jumpsuit and you’ll feel anything but mediocre.

Style tip: if the print would look just as gorgeous adorning your home as wallpaper, you’ve got the look.

While coronavirus restrictions and social isolating measures may mean that shopping sprees as we know them are off the cards, all Camberwell Junction’s top fashion retails continue to bring you the very latest looks and trends for spring 2020 online, and most can be ordered via click-and-collect or contactless home delivery.

Camberwell lingerie business Dickory Dock marks 70 years

A prestigious lingerie business in Camberwell celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

Dickory Dock has been based at the same Camberwell store, at 945 Burke Rd, since it opened its doors in 1946.

The family-owned and run business specialises in quality, imported lingerie including bras, briefs, bridal undergarments, corsetry and bodysuits, swimwear and bras for women who have undergone breast surgery.

The store also gives women the chance to try a unique and intimate fitting experience, with qualified corsetieres on hand to help them find the perfect fit.

Buyer and Associate Director Tiffany Steele is the third generation in the family business and said the ethos of Dickory Dock is still the same as when it began 70 years ago.

“We’re all about personalised service, quality garments sourced from around the world and building trust with our customers. The fundamentals of our lingerie fitting service are still the same after 70 years,” she said.

Ms Steele said Dickory Dock attracted generational customers, with some who began shopping with them in the 1960s still regular customers today.

“Most women hate bra shopping because it is often an unproductive and frustrating experience. However, most of our customers enjoy the fitting experience at Dickory Dock and often express how pain-free it is,” she said.

“Every woman should experience the feeling of looking great in a perfectly fitted and adjusted bra.”

Camberwell lingerie business Dickory Dock marks 70 years

Customers who visit Dickory Dock for a personalised fitting are greeted by a corsetiere who will then take them into the fitting room for measurements.

The store is elegant and intimate – pretty boudoir fitting rooms with luxurious, pink curtains, beautifully decorated walls and a stunning chandelier all add to the experience.

Corsetiere Evie Goode said all stock was housed at the back of the store to eliminate the overwhelming task of customers standing in front of a wall of bras and having to make a decision about what to choose.

“Because we know our range so well, sometimes we’ll throw in one or two styles we think the customer will like. They’re often pleasantly surprised,” Ms Goode said.

“We keep records for every customer, including their history of fittings, garment sizes and styles so they can come back and reorder similar pieces. Or we can mail out garments to them if they’re not able to get to the store.”

Simeon Sparks of Cavalier Menswear

A menswear shop in Camberwell has been dressing the men of Melbourne with quality fashion and good humour for more than 60 years.

Cavalier makes shopping for menswear an enjoyable experience, even for men who don’t like shopping. The store offers everything from men’s suits, to casual wear, knitwear, shoes, socks, ties and accessories.

Store owner Simeon Sparks said Cavalier offers some of the best quality brands at great prices, and customers keep coming back for the friendly atmosphere and witty staff.

“We have fun and we make this an enjoyable place to shop. That was really instilled in the business years ago by previous store owners and managers – to have fun, have fun with the customers and have a laugh with them,” he said.

Heritage

Cavalier has been calling Camberwell home since 1955, and the store has remained in its same location at 632 Burke Rd since opening.

Mr Sparks began working at the store in 1995 after leaving a career in graphic design and dabbling in part-time work in menswear.

“I actually bought my first suit at Cavalier, for job interviews. I got the job and I was so impressed with the company that I eventually bought the store,” he said.

After 10 years in the business, Mr Sparks became the store manager and in 2009 he entered into a partnership with two other people. By 2011, he bought the partners out and has owned and run Cavalier since.

He has seen the store undergo several changes, including a major refurbishment to infuse a more masculine look and feel to the interior.

“There was a real push, in retail, to go with a white, clean and minimal design. But we wanted to retain that classic look and warmth through wooden finishes. I think it fits well with our character and reflects our history,” Mr Sparks said.

Scotch and Soda

Quality

Cavalier’s primary focus is on high quality clothing, no exception.

While the store is renowned for its selection of men’s suits, it also offers smart weekend wear for the man that wants to look good.

Brands stocked at Cavalier include Hugo Boss, Gant, Scotch and Soda, Loake, Canali, Armani Collezioni and Rembrandt.

“All the suits in here are made from European fabrics. They’re a much higher quality,” Mr Sparks said.

“We don’t take shortcuts. We know our customers are too smart – they’ll know if we buy cheap stuff and mark it up. That’s not what we’re about.

“So, if we introduce a new label our customers trust that it is up to standard because they have faith that we’ve done the research and that the product that we’re getting in is an excellent product.”

Trust

For Cavalier customers, it’s all about the experience of finding the perfect suit.

“You get a personalised fitting service, you get to touch and feel fabrics and you get to choose from the best selection of suits and menswear brands,” Mr Sparks said.

“We get a lot of men that come in here that hate shopping but by the time they leave, they’ve had a good time and we’ve made the experience for them easy and enjoyable.”

Mr Sparks said Cavalier helped men take more pride in what they wear and how they look.

“When people walk out of here in our clothes, we want them to represent Cavalier. That’s why we want our customers to look and feel good in the clothes we sell,” he said.

“Clothing makes you feel good. When you put something special on, you feel the effect of that instantly. Men shouldn’t be afraid to look like they’re making an effort.”

The staff at Cavalier put a lot of energy into building relationships with their customers and earning their trust, Mr Sparks said.

“The last thing we want is someone going home after shopping at Cavalier and not talking about us favourably.

“We don’t believe in putting the hard sell on people either because that is not a tactic to keep customers happy and coming back. All we want is to be front of mind when people are looking for suits and quality menswear.

“We’ve always said: love your customer and they’ll love you back.”
