With a new season comes new fashion trends and there are plenty of great styles to adopt for spring/summer 2018.
From a new pastel hue to a 90s revival and a fun twist on florals, there’s sure to be a trend to suit all tastes.
Camberwell fashion stylist Siobhan Baxter said this season’s womenswear trends will be wearable and add a point of interest.
Here are five key fashion trends for spring/summer 2018:
1. Lovely lavender
If you’re not ready to move on from millennial pink and beautiful blush tones just yet, then this season’s must-have colour will be a pleaser.
For spring/summer 2018, the shift to a pale lavender shade will be an easy and welcome transition for lovers of pink.
The dusky, pastel purple will be seen across a number of garments including dresses, skirts and trench coats.
“This soft purple hue is the next IT colour, making a turn in knits, suiting, and whimsical formal wear,” Ms Baxter said.
“Coordinate it with mustard or red accessories for an unexpected pop of colour that gives this trend a modern twist.”
2. Midi length
Midi length hems have been around for a few seasons, but the ladylike style will be even more prominent this spring/summer.
Ms Baxter said “the very wearable” midi length hems will be available in dresses, skirts, culottes and trousers.
“Wear (midi length garments) with your favourite blazer, denim jacket or leather biker for the perfect spring casual look,” she said.
3. The new florals
Florals for spring hardly seems original but this season the springtime print takes a new twist.
Look for florals with a tropical touch or opt for graphic and retro prints – just make sure there are plenty of flowers.
Patchwork, embroidered and paintwork florals will also be popular on bags and accessories.
“Hitting the right mix of colour and detail, these new season florals have a twist that you can wear from spring through to summer,” Ms Baxter said.
“Wear the trend now with a blazer or denim jacket for the perfect updated look and rock this trend with confidence.”
4. Transparent accessories
From see-through acrylic handbags to clear belts to plastic heels, the transparent trend will be in full force this spring/summer.
The trend is slightly futuristic and is reminiscent of 90s fashion, so have fun with it.
“Fall in love with some barely-there accessories that add interest and match with everything,” Ms Baxter said.
5. Leather belt bags
Revisiting another 90s fashion staple is the waist bag – a more stylish version of the bum bag.
This season’s trend sees the bag worn in various ways including slung from the hips or firmly secured around the mid-section to create a defined waist.
“Look for leather or quality materials, sophisticated and simplistic details, and pops of colour to add interest to simple spring looks,” Ms Baxter said.
